The 2011 550i sedan is the 6th generation model and there are a lot of changes since it was first introduced the most distinguishable of course is the styling. Many BMW enthusiast feels that the new 2011 design looks a heck of lot better than the previous generation.

The new design has lines and curves that flow better and is built upon the same platform as the 7 series which means that it has a longer wheelbase. The last and top of the line model the BMW 550i jumps 1.4 liter in size of the engine to a 4.4 liter V8. This engine pumps out 400 hp and 450 lb/ft of torque and its available with AWD (All Wheel Drive) and also available with a six-speed manual transmission for the true sport driver.

Three modes of driving are available from the automatic transmission Comfort, Sport and Sport+. Comfort is self explanatory, with Sport you accelerate quicker off the line and with Sport+ you will be sunken into your car seat as you press the throttle pedal going from 0-100km (0-60 mph) in 5 seconds. In Sport+ mode, all driving dynamics of the 550i are adjusted automatically like the suspension, fuel / air mixture and throttle mapping, all you have to worry about is staying on the road and wiping the smile off your face. This Sport+ features does come with a price, it may set you back about $3200.

As for suspension and braking features, it comes with auto stability control, ABS brakes, brake control and cornering control.

For safety features the 2011 BMW 550i has lots to offer. Driver front and side airbags are standard, has well as rear passenger head curtains air bags. However for $3000 more with the Technology Package you can get Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Detection and rear view mirror. There is also a neat side view camera viewer which has small cameras mounted in the corners of the 2011 BMW 550i rear bumper for those parking lot situations where you cannot see if there are cars coming down the parking lane.
